Our mission is simple but powerful: Being good neighbors. Neighbors are human and non-human. Neighbors share streets and, also, a watershed. So being good neighbors requires care for people and care for place, for our urban setting, for the river that waters it, as well as for the mountain sources. Being good neighbors demands attention to young and old, to the long-term dwellers and to people passing by. Being good neighbors means conserving, cleaning, restoring, recovering life and relationships that have been broken by neglect, conflict and indifference. This is what Casa Cuenca is all about.
Casa Cuenca:
a cycle for life
Neighbors of Santa Rosa (Santo Domingo, Heredia, Costa Rica) remember bathing and fishing in the Virilla River. Today, they live with their backs to the river. The vision of Casa Cuenca is to restore the relationship with the river and its entire ecosystem so that neighbors and the whole watershed or “Cuenca” might flourish.
The vision rests on Casa Adobe’s current conservation work, expands it into a full urban reserve along the river (Part I), and reaches up to Casa Nube, in the cloud forest (Part II), to affect the entire watershed. The dream is to reach down to the wetlands, where these waters join the ocean (Part III). Check our presentation in this link.

a phenomenal opportunity
Sitting in the cloud forest just outside San José and right by Costa Rica’s largest national park, Casa Nube is an ideal site for environmental conservation and education, scientific research and retreats of all sorts. Our Asociación Casa Adobe is receiving it and with your help, we can launch the programming in January of 2024!
